The Glow: Summer Beauty Favourites

I generally feel like I look my best when I'm on holiday, but it's actually when I wear the least make up. There's something about that holiday glow, whether it's the relaxation and happiness or the lack of work stress and addition of fresh air, that makes you look like the best version of yourself. This summer I think I've finally found the perfect combination of make up to have that glow all season. It started with an evening look I did for dinner one night when Joe and I went to Majorca and it's pretty much been my go to every day make up look, minus the red lippy unless I'm feeling sassy of course. It's simple, subtle, doesn't use too many different products and you can build it up or down to suit you. Here are a few of my favourite summer beauty essentials.

Fragrance is another big thing for me when I'm trying to get that holiday feeling! At the moment summer smells like Givenchy Dahlia Divin to me, Joe chose it for me at the airport when he was on his way back from Vegas with work and it smells so deliciously floral I've been wearing it since he got back. I've got my eye on these Clive Christian summer perfumes for him as a duty free treat from the airport this weekend but he might just end up with some mini Toblerones instead!

Starting with base I kept it really light with MAC Prep and Prime, Bobbi Brown Tinted Moisturiser in Light Tint and a light dusting of Banana Powder (similar here). I applied the primer and tinted moisturiser using my fingers and then used a beauty blender to smooth, it takes a minute if that!

For every day make up for work I mix together the tinted moisturiser with a tiny pump of my usual foundation (Estee Lauder Double Wear in Ecru) then apply over La Roche Posay Anthelios XL Ultra Light 50 SPF. This gives me a glowy but light and protected base to build up.

Then comes the glow! I apply Laura Mercier blush in Rose Petal on the apples of my cheeks, then swipe Nars Laguna Bronzer over my cheekbones and forehead. I am all about faking the glow now my natural tan is starting to fade! I love the Nars Laguna Bronzer, I think it's such a solid bronzer for very light but olive skin like mine.

I then add some of the Bobbi Brown shimmer brick in Beige to my cheekbones and brow bones, I use the top two stripes for an every day look and blend all of the stripes for an evening glow. The one I'm using at the moment is Beige, but I also have it in Pink Quartz which is perfect for a rosy glow, I tend to use this more in spring and autumn.

This is hands down my favourite lipstick of the summer, I am obsessed with it! I wanted to find the perfect red/orange lipstick and decided to take a chance on MAC Retro Matte in Dangerous and order it online. I was not disappointed and it barely left my lips on holiday! It gives me an instant pick-me-up day to day too, it's like summer in a lipstick.

I swear by the Caudalie French Kiss lip balm, it's such a lovely texture and the tint is enough for a little flush of colour. It works well as a base for the MAC matte lipsticks if you put a little on.

For my eyes I kept it really simple, I didn't want to take my Naked Palette away with me so I picked up the L'Oreal Paris Color Riche Palette in Nude Rose to take its place. I didn't like it as much but it's a good travel alternative and has some gorgeous colours in it. I used the palest shade for the base then built up with a darker pink and bronze on the outside of my lids with the darker shades around my lash line top and bottom.

I curled my eyelashes with my trusty Charlotte Tilbury eyelash curlers and added a coat of Max Factor 2000 Calorie Waterproof mascara. I don't generally wear waterproof mascara as I hate it when it flakes but on holiday I make an exception.

That's basically it, my little formula for really simple, glowy make up that works on holiday and at home. It's essentially a few layers of SPF, then a few layers of bronze shimmer in a nutshell! Now I think it's about time we all went on holiday again...
