Life Lately: August Update

Well it's safe to say that August has well and truly run away with me, it seems like only yesterday that we were patiently waiting for summer to arrive and now it's time to start waiting for autumn. August has been a very busy month for me, both in work and out of work so I've taken this weekend to hibernate with Joe and get some R&R in before an even busier couple of weeks.

I thought I'd sneak this life update blog post in before the end of the month so you can see what I've been up to, it's my only post in August so far, I've been an awful blogger!

We're starting to make some more progress with the house finally! We had a bit of a lull over summer but this month we've booked in to have the loft boarded later this year, we've found a good handyman who fixed the dodgy bathroom door and we've finished off the spare room.

The majority of the photos in this post were taken in the spare room, it's the smallest bedroom in the house but has plenty of light streaming in through the window, a beautiful original fireplace that has been painted black and original floorboards. We've only just recently got round to buying a proper bed and mattress for in there and now it's perfectly finished off with white cotton bedding from Argos and a pink velvet throw from Christy, of course layered with a Pomme Pomme throw!

We've also finally got round to framing a few prints we've been collecting, we're planning on making a map wall in the middle bedroom (which will eventually be an office/somewhere for me to go when the bloody football is on) so we're keeping them all to one side. So far we have a giant Toronto print* from Modern Map Art which I love and our Montreal print that we bought on our last day in Montreal, the R Kelly lyrics print was a house warming gift from my friend Kyle. We also have a vintage Anglesey map that needs framing and we're on the lookout for some good Manchester, London and Salford ones to add to the collection!

August has actually been quite a good month for travel, which is one of the reasons it's gone so quickly! Myself, Laura, Kate and Rebecca kicked off the month with a last minute trip to Mallorca for some much needed sun, sea, sand and sangria! We had such a good time and I came back so refreshed, we stayed in the most beautiful Airbnb that Laura found and I would definitely go back to the same place again. More on that in another post!

Joe and I managed to sneak in a bank holiday trip to the Lake District too, we stayed in a lovely little hotel in Cockermouth called The Trout where we stuffed our faces. The following day we ventured over to Loweswater to tackle a bit of a hike, we managed over 10 miles and four fells! Joe is working his way through all of the Wainwright fells so we try to go as much as we can, I begrudgingly allow myself to be dragged along and eventually really enjoy it after the initial grumbling at the beginning. I do love taking photos up there, I love the one I snapped on our descent!

We don't have anywhere else planned for the rest of the year apart from a wedding in Dublin in December and perhaps a trip to Anglesey for my birthday, but we're already planning another adventure for next year!

Pomme Pomme

Despite it being (supposedly) summer, August has been the busiest month yet for my little side hustle Pomme Pomme! We've had more orders this month than ever before and also reached over 1,000 followers on Instagram! If you don't follow already, have a gander here.

The amount of collaboration requests from bloggers has been insane, it's so good to see the industry wanting to work with tiny brands as well as big ones, I just wish we had the budget to be able to do more!

I don't have as much time as I'd like to work on Pomme Pomme, but it is only a little hobby that I started so I could be creative in my spare time and experiment with different marketing techniques so I'm not too hung up on high sales and traffic, it's already a success to me.

Work has been even busier than usual recently with a few huge projects coming to an end and Christmas fully kicking off, we have our first major advert shoot coming up in a week or so and there's a lot of work to be done between then and now so this week is going to be incredibly busy.

We're also having a bit of a re-structure in the Creative department I work in so there may be a new role for me in the coming months, watch this space!

That's all that's going on with me at the moment, nothing too exciting but more than enough to keep me out of trouble. Now time to indulge in a little beer with Joe to round off the bank holiday!
