The Gin Explorer Box: October

With another month comes another glorious Gin Explorer box, we've just polished off the last of the gin from October's box so it's time to share what was in the box. For those of you who don't know what the Gin Explorer box is, it's a monthly subscription box full of 4 mini bottles of different gins to try complete with mixers, extra treats that compliment that months' gins and a guide to each of the gins.

This month's box included not 4 but 5 different gins to try! Along with two bottles of tonic and mints, perfect for an evening of gin tasting at home.

Zymurgorium Sweet Violet Gin

If you used to like Parma Violets, this is the gin for you! I adored this gin at first sight, the purple shade is just lovely and makes for a beautiful cocktail. The flavour comes from sweet violets mixed with 20 other botanicals but you can still taste the distinct flavour of gin. This is best served with lemonade so the sweet taste mixes with the sharp but sweet lemon.

Pickering's Gin

This is an ideal autumnal gin with a very fresh, citrus flavour but with spicy, warming notes of cardomom, cloves and coriander seeds. This is best served with pink grapefruit and tonic, but I love it with soda water to get the full taste of the gin.

Ely Pink Grapefruit Gin

I love pink grapefruit so this gin had me at hello. From Ely, specialists in fruit gin, comes their classic pink grapefruit. It has notes of all aspects of pink grapefruit from the juicy flesh to the bitter skin. This is recommended to drink neat or with tonic.

Gordon Castle Gin

One of the more perfect gins, a very clean, crisp and fresh taste. It's a blend of highland herbs, subtle lavender notes and fresh garden mint. Best served with lemon or lime along with mint.

Yerburgh's Jam Jar Gin

This was the bonus gin in the box and it was a very lovely little surprise! This was a crowd funded gin and uniquely served in a mason jar (or a mini jam jar for this sample size). It has a unique flavour of raspberries and cream finished with a lovely, sharp aftertaste. Best served with orange or lemon.

The Gin Explorer box is £24.99 a month so is pretty good value for money with all of the added extras, you can also just buy a one of box rather than subscribing so they make a perfect present for gin obsessed friends and family. If you order before the 5th of November, you'll get this box!

You can get £5 off your first box when you sign up to the Gin Explorer newsletter too, what a treat! Take a look at their site here to find out more.

*The Gin Explorer box was sent to me to review but opinions are, as always, my own.
