Malbec with rump steaks and Prosecco on rooftops, light fruity cocktails and Aperol Spritz, ice cold lemon all served up with gin, these are a few of my favourite things. But I'll be ditching them all for the month of June.
I've never drunk alcohol for the purpose of getting drunk (as full fledged adult anyway), it's always been because I love the taste, there is something so satisfying about a large glass of red at the end of a long week at work or a cold glass of Prosecco in the sunshine with family and friends. But even though I never go out binge drinking, it does add up and I could definitely do without it for a little while.
There are a few reasons I'm ditching booze for June...
Weight loss: I'm the heaviest I've ever been (thanks a lot wine, working in an office and Deliveroo...) so anything that will help shift a few pounds and make my body healthier, I'm all for it. Paired with a better exercise regime, I'm hoping to get back down to my normal weight by the end of June. It's not a scary amount to lose but cutting out booze will 100% help to get me there faster.
Saving money: We're in the process of looking for a house, we haven't found the perfect one just yet but that means that the purse strings are going to have to be a bit tighter so we can cover all of the
Health: I'm getting on a bit (I'll be 30 in a few years, eep) so looking after my health is becoming a priority, from my probably quite battered liver to my skin. Even a month off will help to reduce some of the badness alongside eating more healthily.
I'm fully expecting for pretty much everyone to assume that I'm pregnant during any meal, party or social function while no one will bat an eyelid when my boyfriend (who's doing the same thing) opts for a Diet Coke. That is the beauty of being nearly thirty, having a uterus and tee total, sigh...
If you have any tips for delicious non alcoholic alternatives to see me through parties and events in June, I'd love to hear them! Our work Summer do is at the start of July so that will be the perfect way to celebrate a month off the booze, I might just take it slowly and eat lots of carbs that day to avoid any nonsense!
