Brunette to Balayage

My hair is ever changing, I see it as an accessory that I can change whenever I like, it grows back after all! In the past I've had my head shaved, cropped into a pixie cut and everything in between but recently I've stuck to mid length, brunette with a heavy fringe. It was about time to mix it up a little so when Nicky Clarke got in touch to see if I'd like to experiment with colour in their Manchester salon, I took the plunge.

I've experimented with a dodgy home ombre kit in the past but apart from that, I've never experimented with colour. Because my hair is naturally so dark, I've always been a bit scared of damaging it with bleach, which means no colour! But, I've been intrigued by balayage since last year so I thought it was time to try something a little different.

I was a little apprehensive of how it would look as I couldn't really find any images on Pinterest of what I wanted, everything was a little too bright and blonde. But the lovely people at Nicky Clarke understood exactly what I wanted, I had a full colour consultation where we chatted about what it was that I wanted, how it would be achieved and we selected colours together after a few recommendations. It was the first time I've ever had my hair coloured in a salon so I was a bit nervous about the results but they were absolutely lovely and explained each step to put me at ease.

The whole bleaching process took around an hour to complete, including toning and washing my hair, much quicker than I expected after hearing how long it takes some people in the salon! The benefit of only have the lower half of your hair dyed is that it's a lot quicker and there's no need for constant touch ups, perfect for lazy people like me!

I could not wait to see how it looked, when it was wet I had no idea what the finished look would be, would it be bright blonde or the more subtle caramel that I'd hoped for?

After the balayage had been completed, I was treated to an amazing blow dry, something that is included in every Nicky Clarke cut or colour, and I could finally see the finished shade. I absolutely loved it! My hair had never looked so healthy, bouncy and warm, the subtle change makes a big difference.

I've had so many compliments about it since I had it done and I cannot thank the people at Nicky Clarke enough for being so lovely throughout the experience. It's a much warmer look for summer and means I can get away with my natural waves rather than straightening my hair every day, meaning it's actually more healthy than before.
