Tweet Eats: The Lowry Hotel, Manchester

Situated in Manchester's first five star hotel; The Lowry Hotel is The River Restaurant. A restaurant that caters for all meals throughout the day from breakfast and lunch to afternoon tea and dinner. Just steps away from Spinningfields and over looking the river, it's in the perfect location to retire to after a day of shopping or before treating yourself to a spa treatment in the hotel's spa.

It has been on my 'must-visit' lists for as long as I can remember, but for one reason or another, we hadn't got round to visiting until a couple of weeks ago and it definitely won't be the the last.
We started the meal with a selection of artisan bread served with delicious butter and tapenade, along with a bottle of the house Malbec. The house wine was recommended to us by the very helpful waiter and I couldn't recommend it enough.

To start, we had the Baked Goats Cheese Filo Parcel and the Rosemary and Parmesan Gnocchi. The dishes were impressive with a melee of different aspects to them. The Goats cheese filo parcel was decorated with beetroot, hard goat cheese and figs to make it even more delectable. We never usually go for the vegetarian option so it's great to see that there were at least two tempting vegetarian options to win over us carnivores.

We had obviously moved away from our vegetarian ways by the main course, I opted for the Sirloin Steak and Joe went for the Roasted Saddle of Rabbit. The steak was delicious, but a little more done than I would have liked (I'm a very rare steak kind of girl) and the triple cooked chips I had on the side were some of the best I've had. Joe's main was delicious and served in a really substantial portion with a focus on the rabbit rather than the sides.

We had grand ideas of finishing our meal with dessert but by this point we had devoured so much food that we just didn't have room. We finished with a little espresso and truffles, the perfect way to end a meal.

You can find out more about The River Restaurant here, I would thoroughly recommend it: the food is great, the staff are lovely and the ambiance of the restaurant is so welcoming, we felt comfortable right from the beginning.
