Four Trends I'll be Wearing This Summer

Alas, my summer holiday has been and gone (RIP lazy days, sangria and sun, I'll miss you dearly...) but with it has come a new found love of summer clothes. As soon as we landed my fear of anything other than black, love of mini skirts and ankle boots, dislike of sandals and love of jumpers disappeared in a flurry of sun, sea and sand. And, Manchester weather allowing, I'm hoping they are here to stay for the next few months.

Here are four of my favourite trends that I'll be wearing this summer...

Boyfriend Jeans

I spent years of my adulthood completely avoiding jeans, instead opting for a wardrobe almost solely consisting of high waisted skirts and dresses. But in the past couple of years I've fully embraced denim adding countless pairs of jeans to my wardrobe, but now that summer has (kind of...) arrived skinny jeans are not exactly sun friendly... This is where my old faithful, boyfriend jeans step in! I used to wear boyfriend jeans every day, but since curves have fully arrived, I used to feel self conscious in them, until now!

I picked up a pair of boyfriend jeans from House of Fraser (my new go to online store) and they were ideal for travelling in, I'll have to shoot them for an outfit post soon too!

Going to Great Lengths

Maxi dresses are always something I've avoided, I'm too tall to wear regular length dresses but too short to wear tall ones so in the past I've always ended up with dresses that would often try to send me to my death on an escalator or ones that could easily pass for midi instead of maxi...  But since picking up one that is the perfect length (and doesn't make me feel frumpy or overdressed) for my holiday, I am a complete convert! I'll have to shoot it for an outfit post soon so watch this space...

It has got me thinking, what other maxi dresses can I buy? It's opened up a whole hoard of new styling options for me to play with, sorry bank account, I have some experimenting to do! One of my go-to summer brands Esprit have helped me in my plight to add more length to my wardrobe with their Maxi Lengths trend edit, I may have accidentally just added everything to my basket...

One Piece

My usual holiday swimwear includes a couple of bikinis and tankinis but this year, due to my considerable lack of diet and exercise in the run up to our holiday (thanks to being crazy busy at work) I turned to swimsuits. Thanks to a tip from Sarah, I picked up an amazing secret slimming striped swimsuit from M&S and a Miraclesuit swimsuit meaning I felt far more confident on the beach!

I've been kind of obsessed with the thought of building up my one piece swimsuit collection that I spent most of the journey home looking at different brands, obviously time well spent! One of my favourites was the recently launched beach collection by Forever Unique, everything is incredibly feminine and there are some very flattering styles including the one above and this gorgeous red swimsuit that I need in my life! I can totally use swimming at the gym as an excuse to buy one right?

My love of culottes started in the nineties, me and my sister sported them daily and were entirely enamored by their multi-functional skirt/shorts combo that allowed us to do cartwheels without showing the whole playground our knickers. Since then, my cartwheel activity has sadly declined but my love of culottes is still going strong.

Mainly re-ignited by the ever stylish Angharad who is a massive advocate of culottes, I recently purchased a couple of pairs of culottes (see one of my outfit posts here) which became staples of my holiday wardrobe. Cool, comfortable and effortlessly stylish, they're ideal for throwing on for a day exploring a sunny city or for an evening dinner.

So if you see me over the summer months, you'll most likely see me sporting one of the above four trends! What are your summer must-haves?

  4. I haven't wore boyfriend jeans in years. Mostly because finding the right pair is such a chore, and clothes shopping should always be fun.
Wide legged trousers are my trend de jour. I've had to stop myself from buying like 10 pairs this past week alone.

  6. I can relate to you about the one-piece haha! There are so many cute one-piece swim suits out there that a lot of people over look. I wore bikinis last Summer but now I'm back to my trusty and trendy one-pieces.
