Taking Note of The Little Things

Every now and then it's important to take a step back and take note of the little things that make you happy. It's so easy to get bogged down in work, life and general nonsense and lose sight those small slices of happiness that you need to keep you you. Recently that has been me, so I thought I'd make an effort to make myself aware of the little things.

These are five of my favourite things, no brown paper packages wrapped up in string though I'm afraid... Though I do love them!

Me Time

Enjoying a little 'me' time. Whether this is sneaking off to bed early, lighting a candle and reading Women's Health snuggled up in the duvet while The Man finishes off a game of FIFA or taking a mid week bath after a long day at work.

Feeling on Top of Things

I'll be honest, this rarely happens. Juggling work, life and my blog can get a bit stressful sometimes but when it all comes together and I feel on top of everything, it makes me feel completely, blissfully content.

A Clear Inbox

Clearing my inbox is like a little dose of calm. I hate that red, round number on my iPhone telling me exactly how many emails are yet to be answered, so if I need a bit of calming therapy, I take an hour out of my evening to completely clear my inbox.

A Quiet Night In

The Man was away last weekend and before that, we were on holiday, before that we had a few crazy busy weekends in a row so I'm very happy to have him this weekend, I can't wait to curl up on the settee with him. Even though we just realised that we have tickets to see Future Islands at Manchester Cathedral tonight, we can still definitely squeeze in a quiet Sunday night in!

Seeing Friends and Family

Last weekend was my belated birthday weekend, seeing as I was in Italy for my birthday I wanted to catch up with friends and family. So it was lovely to see some of my favourite people, my family and my baby nieces dressed up for Halloween! I definitely need to make more time to see everyone more regularly, working in online retail at this time of year means we barely see daylight so it's a bit tricky!

Setting Goals

Even if they're only little ones, I love to have a goal to aim for. From today I'll be working on losing weight, getting healthier and saving money. It's probably the worst time of year to be doing any of these but if I can get started with them now, then I have a head start for January! I gave myself a bit of a head start last week and am already feeling better about myself so fingers crossed I can keep motivated!

There's also lots of other tiny little things that I love at this time of year, like walking through autumn leaves, finding those perfect winter boots and beginning my Christmas shopping! What are the little things that make you happy?

  3. Such a lovely post Clare! My favourite little things are big hugs, catching up with a friend I haven't seen in a while, bubble baths while listening to my favourite music, and embracing the changing seasons by going for a walk in the autumnal leaves (which I did today!), having a BBQ in summer or going to a Christmas market!

  4. Great tips :) My favourite things are very similar to yours, I love nights in with Mr W. I'm also quite goal orientated so that floats my boat too. I can't wait for the Xmas markets, I saw Santa being assembled at the town hall yesterday- exciting!!!

  7. Oooo, good list!

I hate that email thing too - I have folders for every type of email I get at work top, so when something is read and taken care of I have to file it away into its folder - very satisfying!

And yes - SO with you on the 'me' time. Living in a one bed flat with the other half can be difficult, especially when he doesn't have the need to have as much 'me' time as I do! Haha
