Breakfast Smoothie Recipe and Smoothie Wars with Ninja Kitchen

My health kick is a week in and I'm 5lb down, hoorah! I'm feeling better inside and very slowly starting to look better on the outside. I'm not doing any crazy diets, I'm just eating healthily and exercising, I've also swapped breakfast for smoothies which is working a treat!

I thought I'd post a little recipe for a breakfast smoothie that will keep you satisfied until lunch time, plus you can make it the night before and leave it in the fridge to thicken up making it a really quick breakfast. The recipe below makes a 24oz (around 600ml) smoothie which will be two servings.

Around 250 calories a glass and packed with nutrients, it's the perfect way to start your day.


- 2 medium bananas
- 1 apple
- 2 medium pears
- Chia seeds (I use chia shots)
- Almond milk


1. Prepare the fruit by peeling the bananas, coring the apple and pears, then add them to your blender.
2. Add the chia seeds and almond milk, add as little or as much as you like depending on whether you like a thick smoothie.
3. Blend thoroughly and enjoy!

It's so simple, really quick to make and delicious, perfect for breakfast!

My love of smoothies started last week when I was invited to Smoothie Wars at The Post Box Cafe in Chorlton, a challenge hosted by blender wizards Ninja Kitchen. There were 9 bloggers, a table full of ingredients, a Nutri Ninja blender each and the challenge to create a smoothie in under 10 minutes!

We split into groups and took it in turns to head up to the table and fill our smoothie cups with whatever delicious ingredients we fancied, I opted for a rather sinful smoothie full of white chocolate, raspberries and syrup that looked quite fitting for Halloween!

The smoothies were such beautiful colours (even Sarah's lone green number!) so we all couldn't wait to get stuck in! We were given samples of each smoothie to rate, the overall winner would win a massive, pro blender so we were all excited about the prospect of taking that home! There were some delicious ones, some so thick we had to use spoons and some that weren't quite as tasty... In the end Kat from Rainbow Crush deservedly won! I somehow managed to come second (by one point!) which I'm pretty pleased with seeing as my smoothie was more of a dessert!

  1. I've been off smoothies for a bit as they were starting to give me stomach aches. my fav was milk, banana, honey, cinnamon and oats but i think i was od-ing on the oats.

    I wouldn't mind going to a classy though!

  2. I am converted to smoothies too- I love this recipe! I will definitely give it a go. I even found that a smoothie yesterday CLEARED my hangover! They must be good after all ;)
