Sometime last week I was chatting to Buckets, claiming there were 'loads of cycle style blogs out there' and I've kind of had it at the back of my mind ever since. I vividly remember last summer doing street style photography for Fashion156.com constantly trying to capture wonderful people as they whizzed by me on their bikes, often failing to do so.
It seems the way to take photos of the elusive bike folk is to get them off their bike, seen above on many a street style site.
I, personally, am terrified of riding a bike on the road and I'm not very good at doing so when I muster up the courage so I'm pretty much in awe of a certain Miss Catherine Baba captured by Jak and Jil whilst riding the streets of Paris in YSL heels.
Not only has there been a rise in 'cycle chic' blogs, through my epic googling on the subject I found a fashion show dedicated to, as they call it, 'Wheels and Heels'. Organised by Hackney Council in London back in 2008 so perhaps we'll see another one soon!
I pretty much love all of these photos, that would have been quite normal without the bikes, they add a little something, an oversized accessory if you will. If I had to choose I'd go with the Sartorialist image at the very top of the page, I think it evoked summer perfectly.
I woke up this morning with what feels like tonsilitis (even though I haven't got any tonsils...) so I shall be bedridden today and will be spending time planning lots of posts so if there's anything you want to see or think I should do more of, just let me know!
love love but you forgot AgY dyen :) the vitage flowery dress+ the french hat and sandals and the vintage bike with the basket
ReplyDeleteooh these are fabulous :) the first and the fourth last are my favourites! have a brilliant week, easter's just around the corner :)

ReplyDeleteI have a very hardcore, ugly bike at home... I think I must invest in a pretty, city bike!! I am determined that when I head off to uni I will cycle everywhere... just found your blog, love it.
ReplyDeleteWow, maybe the Satorialist should start a street-style, cycle division to his blog. I don't think I could ever look this chic on a bike!
ReplyDeleteAren't cyclistas the chicest of all! And the greatest thing is: You can wear high heels. Hope you get better soon (highly recommend ginger tea!) x
ReplyDeleteLove this post! Such a good theme. Though I don't know how that girl with the crazy stilettos could possibly ride a bike. That's just an accident waiting to happen.
ReplyDeleteAwesome blog!
I have to agree with Molly - I don't know how that lady could wear those stilettos on that bike! I'd be terrified of my heel getting caught and falling into the traffic.
ReplyDeleteI, too, am scared of riding on the road, so until I move to the country, I doubt I'll be getting in on the beautiful bike action.

ReplyDeleteOh my gosh. Riding a bike in heels?!
ReplyDeleteI bought a bike two years ago and rode it ONCE. It was terrifying riding a bike in the city. I rode it to campus one day and never picked it up again.
Anyone who can riding in heels has my respect.
